The yellow jacket features a yellow Fokker triplane Jasta 27. Unit markings include yellow cowling, wheel covers, struts and rear fuselage. The main bird belonged to Lieutenant Rudolf Klimke, whose personal insignia was a large anchor.

The pilot and series of the second bird are unknown, but the markings are very interesting - a large "V" with three small yellow stars. The three planes with white markings in the lower left corner belong to Oblt Hermann Göring, the Staff Commander at the time.

The UH-34D helicopter on display in the south atrium is painted with the same markings as the most famous example—the helicopter that towed astronaut Alan Shepard from the Atlantic Ocean after his historic flight. Hanging from the ceiling above the ground floor of the military gallery is a reproduction of the first craft successfully flown by manned aircraft.

Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first controlled, sustained flight of a powered, heavier-than-air airplane on December 17, 1903, four miles south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina with the Wright Flyer. This extremely rare print was signed by the General and was published in 1992 as part of the 50th anniversary of the historic Doolittle Raid in Tokyo.
